Artist's Comments

media: transparent watercolor
sience: green analogous

found this flower in a rose book n i liked it cuz the color was just so vibrant. plus, the curves of the flower looked fun to paint. let's see... how i approached this one... i underpainted with my alizeran which was neutralized with red purple. then i added green neutralized with a ting bit of cadmium over the background to cool down the painting cuz i found the red background and red flower made it too "hot". in the photo, there were a LOTTA leaves but i took most of them out n just suggested a few cuz i felt they made the painting too busy and distracted the veiwer from the flower. this is only a work up to my bigger one (which is too big to scan) so there r still a few mistakes in this one. this was my first flower n all i can say is wow... flowers r a PAIN in the a$$. they're fun but tedious. n plus.. i almost went BLIND lookin for all the shapes. i probably put on about 7 layers of paint on that flower to get in all the shapes. anyways... lookin for some constructive criticism.

I love teh color palette in this, very nice use of the shades. In terms of constructive critism, I would only have two things:
1) Watch your cropping. The white edges on the three sides is distracting from the flower itself.
2) Watch your shadows and depth. On the left edge of the flower, there seems to be a part of the leaves or stem, however there is very little suggust how far back or front it is compared to teh flower. Adding a bit more dark to it as it approaches the petels would give it more of a depth feeling.
